"A CUSTOM"
To have a "custom" is to have established
a long practiced activity.
_______SCRIPTURE____________
Lk 4:16-19
16 And he came to Nazareth, where he had
been brought up: and, as his custom was,
he went into the synagogue on the sabbath
day, and stood up for to read.
17 And there was delivered unto him the
book of the prophet Esaias. And when he had
opened the book, he found the place where
it was written,
18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because
he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to
the poor; he hath sent me to heal the
brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the
captives, and recovering of sight to the blind,
to set at liberty them that are bruised,
19 To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.

_______THOUGHT______________
To be in church was a "custom" for Jesus.
It was something He had determined to do
EVERY week.
When Jesus entered the synagogue, He was
accepted as a distinguished visitor.
They gave Him the "book," or copy of part of the Bible.
He was given the "book...to read..."
It was customary for the priest to determine
from which "book" the reading would come.
It was customary for the person designated
to read, which PART of the book would be used.
Jesus chose to read what we have in our
Bibles as Isaiah 61:1-2.
The person who read, was also expected to
speak concerning the reading.
Jesus' entrance into the world was to purchase
redemption for sinful mankind.
He came to proclaim "the Gospel" of salvation!
The Gospel is indeed "good tidings!"
It is healing to the "brokenhearted."
It is "liberty" to those who are "captives" to sin.
It is "opening" the prison door to those who
are "bound" by sin.
And, he came to proclaim the "acceptable year
of the LORD!"
Jesus left OFF "the day of vengeance of our
God."
ESTABLISH a "custom" of attending church!
LEARN "the Gospel!"
Then PROCLAIM it!
