"CONTRAST Light With Darkness"
Natchitoches, Louisiana is known as the
"City of lights."
The Christmas festival there on the first
Saturday in December is famous.
Driving down "Front Street," which in the
morning is an awakening experience.
One notices that the light of the sun does
not shine the same way on each of the
bricks.

The people that walked in darkness have seen
a great light: they that dwell in the land of the
shadow of death, upon them hath the light
shined.

Light and darkness are sometimes used in
the Bible as metaphors.
While light alludes to understanding, the
darkness alludes to a lack of comprehension.
In John 1:4-5, the light refers to Jesus, and the
darkness refers to a lack of perception.
"In Him was life; and the life was the light of
men.
And the light shineth in the darkness; and the
darkness comprehended it not"
In the art of photography, contrast is meant
to exhibit brightness with shadows.
If the photographer wants to highlight
something in a picture, he/she will place
a bright light on the person or object to be
photographed.
In a portrait for example, the face of the
person is highlighted, while the background
is dark shadows.
Thus, the focus of someone looking at the
photograph is on the person or object.
For instance, a lighted Christmas tree would
be photographed in a darkened room.
Then, someone looking at the photograph
would quickly focus on the tree.
Let's then think of Jesus as the focus of
true comprehension and understanding of
God.
At this Christmas season, let us FOCUS
on the LIGHT of CHRIST!
