DAILY DEVOTIONS

Today's Devotion:
"SLEEPING for SORROW"

HI!

The Lieutenant found the soldier sleeping
while on guard duty.
He asked, "WHY?"

The private answered, "Sir, this morning I
received a letter from home. My father
died. I was thinking about how he was
such an influence on my life....and I just
fell asleep."

_______SCRIPTURE____________

Luke 22:45-46
45 And when he rose up from prayer, and
was come to his disciples, he found them
sleeping for sorrow,
46 And said unto them, Why sleep ye? rise
and pray, lest ye enter into temptation.
KJV

_______THOUGHT______________

Peter had earlier said (Luke:22:33) that he
would follow Jesus to prison and to death
if it were necessary.

Yet, when Jesus asked them to watch and
pray (Luke 22:40), He found them "asleep
for sorrow."

Why does grief cause us to be overly tired
and sleepy?
Experiencing someone you love, in a
hospital dying, brings such SPIRITUAL sorrow
that sleep is a natural escape.

Spiritual sorrow is great grief.

It was NOT imperative that Jesus die on a
cross for our sins.
But it was His PASSION!
There was no other way for mankind's sin to
be forgiven; but that God's blood be paid
to God as the perfect sacrifice.
That sacrifice was required of God Himself
in order to offer FORGIVENESS to men.
So, Jesus was "EXCEEDING sorrowful, even
unto death!"
(Matt. 26:38)

And the disciples had great sorrow because
He had told them He would die.

Let us praise God, that though Jesus had
great grief, our Lord "shall neither slumber
nor sleep!"
(Ps. 121:4)

He is watching over us, interceding before
the throne of God for our sake!

Love ya!
