THROUGH THE BIBLE IN THREE YEARS

This program of daily devotions is designed to take you through the Bible in three years. It is our desire to help you gain a better general understanding of God's Word.

Please understand that in a study this brief, we will be concerned with only the major emphases and context of the Scriptures.

Each day a devotion for one or two chapters is posted, beginning with chapter one of Genesis and going through chapter twenty-two of Revelation. You are free to print each page as it appears. If you miss a day, you may contact us and request that devotion. Please send your request, along with $.50 (p&h) for each page to:

LEVITICUS
CHAPTER 20

1 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, 2 Again, thou shalt say to the children of Israel, Whosoever he be of the children of Israel, or of the strangers that sojourn in Israel, that giveth any of his seed unto Molech; he shall surely be put to death: the people of the land shall stone him with stones. 3 And I will set my face against that man, and will cut him off from among his people; because he hath given of his seed unto Molech, to defile my sanctuary, and to profane my holy name. 4 And if the people of the land do any ways hide their eyes from the man, when he giveth of his seed unto Molech, and kill him not: 5 Then I will set my face against that man, and against his family, and will cut him off, and all that go a whoring after him, to commit whoredom with Molech, from among their people.

These laws have been given, now God tells the penalties for disobedience.
To offer a child to a different god - the penalty of DEATH. Remember, a child is
a gift from GOD. How many good ole American Christians have offered their children to the
gods of the American dream: fame, fortune, power, social standing, etc.?
Children of Christians should be taught the Word of God FIRST and foremost. It is good
for children to memorize and learn Scripture.
Too often, Christians teach the child everything BUT the Word of God.
Notice one other thing here. God says that if the people won't impose the death
penalty, HE WILL!

6 And the soul that turneth after such as have familiar spirits, and after wizards, to go a whoring after them, I will even set my face against that soul, and will cut him off from among his people. 7 Sanctify yourselves therefore, and be ye holy: for I am the LORD your God. 8 And ye shall keep my statutes, and do them: I am the LORD which sanctify you.

Those who seek after wizards, sorcerers, psychics, and palm-readers God will also "cut off."
Keep in mind "cut off" is usually associated with DESTROY. God has all the wisdom we need. Read
Proverbs 2:1-8. See James 1:5. We don't need to seek advice from people who don't believe in the
One Supreme God.

9 For every one that curseth his father or his mother shall be surely put to death: he hath cursed his father or his mother; his blood shall be upon him.

My friends, it is an awful thing when children curse their parents! Jesus restated this law
Himself in Matthew 15:4. The book of Proverbs explicitly tells us that God will not let this
sin go unpunished.
"The eye that mocketh at his father, and despiseth to obey his mother, the ravens of the valley
shall pick it out, and the young eagles shall eat it.
" (Proverbs 30:17)
In other words, that person shall die such a death that the birds of carion will have a feast on
his/her body.
This may seem a harsh thing to teach a child. But if the child is taught this, he/she will certainly
think twice before being disrespectful to parents. Parents break the trust God gave them when they
don't teach THE WHOLE WORD OF GOD to their children!

10 And the man that committeth adultery with another man's wife, even he that committeth adultery with his neighbour's wife, the adulterer and the adulteress shall surely be put to death. 11 And the man that lieth with his father's wife hath uncovered his father's nakedness: both of them shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them. 12 And if a man lie with his daughter in law, both of them shall surely be put to death: they have wrought confusion; their blood shall be upon them.

Adutery receives the punishment of DEATH! No doubt, some will say that I'm a crass ole
fundamentalist when I make this next statement. But, friends, if this were the punishment
for adultery today, we'd have a whole lot less of this "sleepin' around!"
Day-time television shows and many evening TV shows, and most movies make a MOCKERY of this law.
Adultery defiles the holiness of matrimony which God has ordained.

13 If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.

WHOOOOEEE! Did you READ that?
How can a person stand in a congregation avowing trust in Jesus Christ, and continue to live a life
of homosexualism?
This commandment also carries with it the punishment of DEATH!
Talk about ANTI-GAY! God is REALLY anti-gay!
Again, I say, if this punishment were used in today's society, a lot of people would be hiding IN
their closets instead of "coming out" of them!
When the truth is told, a lie is exposed. And one cannot claim faith in God and be a continual
murderer, adulterer, thief, homosesual or lesbian.
This does NOT mean we are to be cold toward those who commit such evil. Indeed we are commanded
to "preach the gospel to every creature." (Mark 16:15)
And the gospel includes the fact that Jesus who denies us these things can also SAVE us
from these things. That same JESUS Who is able to SAVE us is also able to CHANGE us!

14 And if a man take a wife and her mother, it is wickedness: they shall be burnt with fire, both he and they; that there be no wickedness among you. 15 And if a man lie with a beast, he shall surely be put to death: and ye shall slay the beast. 16 And if a woman approach unto any beast, and lie down thereto, thou shalt kill the woman, and the beast: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them. 17 And if a man shall take his sister, his father's daughter, or his mother's daughter, and see her nakedness, and she see his nakedness; it is a wicked thing; and they shall be cut off in the sight of their people: he hath uncovered his sister's nakedness; he shall bear his iniquity.

Notice these sins are of SEXUALITY. Man is inherrently a sensual being. We have feelings and
emotions as well as fleshly desires.
But our SPIRITUALITY is supposed to RULE our sexuality!
Sex is given ONLY to a married male and female. There are NO OTHER allowances.
For a man to take a woman, AND her daughter as his wives is not only polygamy; it is also
UNHOLY and against God's express will for marriage.
To have sex with an animal is to defile the holiness of the act.
And to have sex with a person's sister (or brother) defiles the holiness of the act.
There is nothing wrong with having sex IF it is between a married man and woman.
OTHER forms of sex are AGAINST God's will, and defile the holiness of the act which God gave expressly
to marriage for the purpose of procreation.
18 And if a man shall lie with a woman having her sickness, and shall uncover her nakedness; he hath discovered her fountain, and she hath uncovered the fountain of her blood: and both of them shall be cut off from among their people.

If a man and a woman (married) have sexual intercourse during her menstrual season, they are
made susceptible to disease. There are SOME arguments that in our modern culture, cleanliness would
do away with the need for this commandment. But let us not prsume to negate the Word of God!
For those who would do such a thing would probably not take advantage of proper hygiene.

19 And thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of thy mother's sister, nor of thy father's sister: for he uncovereth his near kin: they shall bear their iniquity. 20 And if a man shall lie with his uncle's wife, he hath uncovered his uncle's nakedness: they shall bear their sin; they shall die childless. 21 And if a man shall take his brother's wife, it is an unclean thing: he hath uncovered his brother's nakedness; they shall be childless.

Verse 19, as I see it, addresses marriage between a man and his aunt (either on mother's or father's side).
Verse 20, certainly addresses adultery. But I think it also is a prohibition of marriage to an uncle's wife
after he has died.
Verse 21 prohibits marrying a brother's wife after his demise. However, there is an exception to this
law. Dueteronomy 25:5-6 states this exception for the purpose of inheritance succession. Familiarize
yourself with Genesis 38:7-10. This was a common practice in order to keep allotted land in the correct
place in the family.

22 Ye shall therefore keep all my statutes, and all my judgments, and do them: that the land, whither I bring you to dwell therein, spue you not out. 23 And ye shall not walk in the manners of the nation, which I cast out before you: for they committed all these things, and therefore I abhorred them. 24 But I have said unto you, Ye shall inherit their land, and I will give it unto you to possess it, a land that floweth with milk and honey: I am the LORD your God, which have separated you from other people.

God's statement here is that the society which preceded the Jewish nation committed all these
"abominations." And because of that God caused them to lose their land. Now He has sanctified this
nation of people to be "holy."
The same applies to us today. History records that nation after nation has fallen apart when they
delved into these acts of unholiness and uncleanliness.
NO nation having rampant homosexuality and adultery has EVER survived!
Are we HEARING God today?

25 Ye shall therefore put difference between clean beasts and unclean, and between unclean fowls and clean: and ye shall not make your souls abominable by beast, or by fowl, or by any manner of living thing that creepeth on the ground, which I have separated from you as unclean. 26 And ye shall be holy unto me: for I the LORD am holy, and have severed you from other people, that ye should be mine.

The separateness of "clean" and "unclean" beasts was a sign to the world that God had chosen this people
for His own. The separateness of abiding in His Word is a sign to the world that we are His children
in and by Christ Jesus today. For Jesus said,
"Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my
disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."
(John 8:31-32)

Let us then, by Holy Spirit inspired desire, be obedient to His Word, for it is the Word of FAITH
to all who believe.

27 A man also or woman that hath a familiar spirit, or that is a wizard, shall surely be put to death: they shall stone them with stones: their blood shall be upon them.

To me, this verse puts palm-readers, psychics and horoscope writers right up there with homosexuals,
lesbians, and those who commit beastiality. You will notice that the penalty God imposed upon these people
was DEATH.

How have we let our society slide from when laws expressly forbid this sort of thing to where now it is
even legal to advertise such things? What HAPPENED?
What happened was that Christians were despised and rejected by some so-called elite folk because they
espoused morality and truth. Christians have been called "bigots," "crazy fundamentalists," and
"intolerant" because of their outspokenness against the immorality contained in this chapter and others
of the Bible.
As a result, many Christians have "compromised" and allowed others to state their opinions WITHOUT opposition. And over a period of time, immoral people have been MORE OUTSPOKEN than Christians!!

Are YOU afraid of someone calling you names because of moral viewpoints?
Are YOU afraid of being ostracized by society because of adhering to God's Word?
