THROUGH THE BIBLE IN THREE YEARS

This program of daily devotions is designed to take you through the Bible in three years. It is our desire to help you gain a better general understanding of God's Word.

Please understand that in a study this brief, we will be concerned with only the major emphases and context of the Scriptures.

Each day a devotion for one or two chapters is posted, beginning with chapter one of Genesis and going through chapter twenty-two of Revelation. You are free to print each page as it appears. If you miss a day, you may contact us and request that devotion. Please send your request, along with $.50 (p&handling) for each page to:

PSALM

CHAPTER 61

1 To the chief Musician upon Neg'-i-nah, A Psalm of David. Hear my cry, O God; attend unto my prayer. 2 From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I. 3 For thou hast been a shelter for me, and a strong tower from the enemy. 4 I will abide in thy tabernacle for ever: I will trust in the covert of thy wings. Selah.

We have seen now, many songs in which David faced trouble and called out to God for deliverance. Here we see that the reason he calls to God is because he is committed to believing and trusting God and God alone for both his salvation and any victories he might achieve.

From wherever we are, we can call upon God (verse 2). Under whatever condition our emotions may be, we can call upon God (verse 2).

God Himself will lead us to greater heights than we could attain without His miraculous grace and help (verse 2).

David realizes that his only salvation from sin and from present enemies on earth is God (verse 3). And he also realizes that God had promised eternal salvation to those who will surrender their lives to Him (verse 4).

5 For thou, O God, hast heard my vows: thou hast given me the heritage of those that fear thy name. 6 Thou wilt prolong the king's life: and his years as many generations. 7 He shall abide before God for ever: O prepare mercy and truth, which may preserve him. 8 So will I sing praise unto thy name for ever, that I may daily perform my vows.

God hears those who are committed to Him, and He gives them the days of their lives for His glory (verse 5).

The "heritage" of fellow-Christians is a great comfort (verse 5).

Those who trust God will, by His mercy and grace, be "preserved" forever (verse 7). And we shall praise Him eternally (verse 8).

As long as we focus upon praising God with our lives, we can accomplish what God has set for us to do (verse 8).

CHAPTER 62

1 To the chief Musician, to Je-du'-thun, A Psalm of David. Truly my soul waiteth upon God: from him cometh my salvation. 2 He only is my rock and my salvation; he is my defence; I shall not be greatly moved.

Salvation can be found in only ONE Person -- that is GOD. Jesus said that was HIM! (John 14:6) Peter also said that Jesus was the ONLY way (Acts 4:12). Thomas fell down before Jesus when he saw Him resurrected and said, "My LORD, and my GOD!" (John 20:28)
Not only does Jesus grant us our eternal salvation from the enemy of sin; but He also grants us HELP in this earth (verse 2).

3 How long will ye imagine mischief against a man? ye shall be slain all of you: as a bowing wall shall ye be, and as a tottering fence. 4 They only consult to cast him down from his excellency: they delight in lies: they bless with their mouth, but they curse inwardly. Selah.

Men fight against men; but they who do not surrender to Christ will suffer ETERNAL defeat! (verse 3). Their self-defense against the reality of God shall be like a broken down wall or a falling fence.

There are many in the world today who consult Christ and Christian people only to be "politically correct," or socially correct. Inwardly they do not claim Jesus as Lord of their lives.

5 My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from him. 6 He only is my rock and my salvation: he is my defence; I shall not be moved. 7 In God is my salvation and my glory: the rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God. 8 Trust in him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before him: God is a refuge for us. Selah. 9 Surely men of low degree are vanity, and men of high degree are a lie: to be laid in the balance, they are altogether lighter than vanity. 10 Trust not in oppression, and become not vain in robbery: if riches increase, set not your heart upon them. 11 God hath spoken once; twice have I heard this; that power belongeth unto God. 12 Also unto thee, O Lord, belongeth mercy: for thou renderest to every man according to his work.

We should instruct ourselves to "wait" only on God: To serve Him ONLY! God alone holds salvation in His hand, and offers it to any man who will surrender his life to God.

Those who trust in themselves (verse 9) and/or in oppressing others to gain riches (verse 10), shall find their end in an eternal fiery pit.

All power belongs to God (verse 11). And He is the one who judges every man according to how he has lived life.

Let us so live our lives as to testify that Jesus is LORD!
