TODAY'S SCRIPTURE STUDY

JONAH

CHAPTER 3

1 And the word of the LORD came unto Jonah the second time, saying, 2 Arise, go unto Nineveh, that great city, and preach unto it the preaching that I bid thee. 3 So Jonah arose, and went unto Nineveh, according to the word of the LORD. Now Nineveh was an exceeding great city of three days' journey.

After the previous experience, when God told Jonah to go to Nineveh and preach, he was OBEDIENT!
I once heard a teacher say, "When Jonah's feet hit the sea shore, he began running and didn't stop 'til he was in Nineveh!"
Has God's chastisement caused YOU to be OBEDIENT?

4 And Jonah began to enter into the city a day's journey, and he cried, and said, Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown. 5 So the people of Nineveh believed God, and proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from the greatest of them even to the least of them. 6 For word came unto the king of Nineveh, and he arose from his throne, and he laid his robe from him, and covered him with sackcloth, and sat in ashes. 7 And he caused it to be proclaimed and published through Nineveh by the decree of the king and his nobles, saying, Let neither man nor beast, herd nor flock, taste any thing: let them not feed, nor drink water: 8 But let man and beast be covered with sackcloth, and cry mightily unto God: yea, let them turn every one from his evil way, and from the violence that is in their hands. 9 Who can tell if God will turn and repent, and turn away from his fierce anger, that we perish not? 10 And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God repented of the evil, that he had said that he would do unto them; and he did it not.

The "Word" Jonah received from God was that if Nineveh didn't repent within 40 days, they would be "overthrown."

Considering Jonah's experience in the whale's belly, I can imagine his preaching was very animated! And I can imagine his APPEARANCE was quite different from most folk! Can you imagine being bleached out by the stomach acids of a whale? Jonah was probably a sight to behold!

When the people received the "Word," it was brought to the king. He laid aside his regal robe and replaced it with sackcloth and sat in ashes. He led the people into fasting and prayers of repentance.
OH! How I pray that our leaders would do the same!!

The message today is even STRONGER than the message Jonah preached. "TODAY is the day of salvation!" People have NO OTHER day! Yesterday is gone, and tomorrow may not come. We have ONLY today!
Can you imagine the changes in our governmental leadership if people genuinely BELIEVED that message?

What will it take for our leaders to believe the message? It will take nothing less than true Christians really believing and preaching the message!

At any moment, on any given day, Jesus may come and call His church away. Then, there will come seven years of "tribulation." And the Bible describes those years as a time when NO ONE really WANTS to live on this earth!

Christians, tell it as you BELIEVE it! You have family, fellow workers, fellow students, neighbors and friends that need to HEAR this message!
